Ernst Barlch Society
Ernst Barlach Society has been caring for and researching the artistic and literary heritage of Ernst Barlach since 1946 and is dedicated to the advancement of art and culture. Their duties include the conception and ongoing development of the museum programs in Ratzeburg and Wedel as well as the organization of current exhibitions and events on Ernst Barlach and socially relevant topics in cooperation with German, European and international cultural institutes. The Foundation participates in research projects and is committed to making individual artistic and literary achievements visible through the regular awarding of the Ernst Barlach Prize. The artist and namesake Ernst Barlach is associated with an inexhaustible potential and at the same time a great responsibility. His artistic motivation of wanting to make this world a better place obliges us to look at it from a contemporary perspective and to be able to place it in current transformation processes. For this reason, the Ernst Barlach Society has undertaken decades of academic work to produce the complete edition of the literary works in 11 volumes, concluding in 2020 with the final publication. Equally important is the Ernst Barlach Society's commitment to the next generation. With educational formats such as Barlach GoYoung, Barlach for Kids, and Face Art-Face Future, the Ernst Barlach Society is actively engaged in promoting a culture of understanding, creative crisis management, and peaceful dialogue, even across national borders. It offers young stakeholders a platform to visibly intervene in social thinking and shaping processes.
